A Wee Show with a Big Heart
Edmonton’s only indie & boutique baby show celebrates its third event

October 3, 2011 (Edmonton, AB)

How do you create an event that’s growing in popularity and is truly unique? It takes two artist-moms with a passion for local indie & boutique companies — and two moms with heart!

As the owner of a successful graphic design company Christina Dennis’ days were long and busy. Then three years ago Christina Dennis found out she was going to be a mother for the first time. It wasn’t long after her baby girl arrived Christina decided to take a step back and spend more time at home being a mommy designing her own baby clothing line, Golly Gee Baby. Shortly after that Christina noticed there were many local indie, boutique and home-based businesses dedicated to babies and families, just like hers. One of those business owners is Leah Seidl, designer and owner behind Whimsical Elements – a handmade accessories company. These two savvy women quickly found they had many things in common, including a passion to help promote other independent artisans and local boutique business owners. That is when WeeStock was created.

The inaugural WeeStock event was held May 1st, 2010 at the Elks Hall in Spruce Grove. WeeStock 2010 Spring Edition was Parkland County’s first baby expo of it’s kind. It boasted over 50 amazing baby businesses that were mostly family-owned and from the county area. This first-of-its-kind event drew so much attention that the day-of witnessed a line-up to get in over one block long. WeeStock 2010 Holiday Edition, held on November 20, 2010, moved into Edmonton and the Mayfield Trade Centre. With over 100 exhibitors, organizers Leah and Christina saw thousands of guests attend the second show, thus confirming the show’s uniqueness and growing popularity.

WeeStock’s third event is scheduled at the Aviation Hangar (11410 Kingsway Avenue) in Edmonton for Saturday, October 29, 2011 from 10 am to 4 pm. The event will feature vendors from all over Alberta that specialize in handmade, organic, natural, fair trade and unique & original goodies for babies, toddlers, new mommies, and mommies-to-be. This show will be WeeStock’s most exciting show to date!

Christina and Leah believe in paying it forward, so they are supporting Alexander’s Quest – a non-profit organization dedicated to grant wishes of children facing cancer and to raise children’s cancer awareness. Guests can donate to this wonderful organization by purchasing a raffle ticket to win a gift basket at the show.

“We know there are other tradeshows for families in the area”, says Christina, “but we feel our dedication to indie and boutique baby businesses gives our event the ‘grassroots’ feel families are craving.”

Leah agrees and adds, “Local baby boutiques and local artisans offer high quality, unique items and services that larger, more corporate businesses can’t match. We want to support our local community and its hard-working family businesses that put their hearts into producing their product.”
