SHOPPING LOCAL FOR BABY: WeeStock Presents Their Fourth Show this Spring

26 March 2012 (Edmonton, AB)

Hundreds of new and expecting parents will be shopping locally for their babies and toddlers on Saturday, April 21 at WeeStock Indie & Boutique Baby Show in Edmonton at the Aviation Heritage Centre this spring. WeeStock is a unique show in Edmonton that has been focusing on bringing local, handmade, organic, fair trade, and boutique-quality baby and toddler products and services to young families in the area since its first show in early 2010.

“It is really important to shop locally as much as you can”, says WeeStock co-producer Leah Seidl, who owns an independent accessories company called Whimsical Elements. “By keeping money in the community, you help boost the local economy and support small business owners.”

Christina, co-producer of the show and the owner of local baby clothing company Golly Gee Baby, adds: “WeeStock is a show featuring a special, curated group of small businesses from Alberta that specialize in baby products and services. By shopping for your baby at WeeStock, you are not only supporting these unique local businesses but you are also getting higher quality products for your child.”

WeeStock 2012 Spring Edition will be held at the Aviation Heritage Centre on 11410 Kingsway Avenue in Edmonton on April 21 from 10 am to 4 pm. In addition to a unique shopping experience the show will have a Parent’s Lounge area for baby feeding and changing, a cafe with snacks and drinks, and a reading corner that will feature book readings every half hour by local children’s authors and a local book shop. WeeStock is also supporting an Alexander’s Quest – an Alberta charity that promotes awareness of children’s cancer and grants small wishes to these children. Come early to the show – the first 100 guests will receive an early bird prize bag!

WeeStock is proudly presented by LITE 95.7 and is also sponsored by Modern Mama, Urban Chickadee, Cosy Baby Happy Mommy, Natural Urban Mamas, Steve Nagy Photography, Golly Gee Baby and Whimsical Elements.

Conscious Shopping for Today’s Baby – Edmonton’s indie & boutique baby show features local, handmade, organic and fair trade products for babies

Conscious Shopping for Today’s Baby
Edmonton’s indie & boutique baby show features local, handmade, organic and fair trade products for babies

October 24, 2011 (Edmonton, AB)

There’s a new “conscious shopping” attitude in the mothering community. New mothers are more interested than ever in purchasing eco-friendly and socially conscious items for their new babies.  Rather than seeking mass-produced, lower quality toys, bedding and clothing, many moms are looking for unique items that are good for the environment, their children, and their local economy.

On Saturday, October 29, 2011 in Edmonton, over 70 exhibitors will come together at WeeStock 2011 – and indie & boutique baby show that features local, handmade, organic and fair trade products for babies. From 10 am to 4 pm at the Edmonton Aviation Heritage Centre at 11410 Kingsway Ave, shoppers can find a variety of unique, high quality products and services that local businesses in our community offer. WeeStock 2011 is the only show of its kind where all exhibitors  are Alberta-owned businesses and offer only the best products for babies and their families.

Christina Dennis, owner of  local baby clothing company Golly Gee Baby, says: “We’re passionate about supporting independent artisans, local boutiques and community groups and connecting them to Edmonton families.”

“This is our third show”, adds Leah Seidl, owner of handmade accessories company Whimsical Elements, “and we’ve been blown away by the positive response we’ve received from the local mom community for our show and its vendors. Our 2011 show will be more exciting than ever!”

In addition to a unique shopping experience, guests at WeeStock 2011 will also be able to park their strollers and try out a baby carrier, use our private parents’ lounge to feed and change baby and let their children “get messy” in our play area.

Admission to WeeStock 2011 is $5.00 at the door and children are free. Because WeeStock believes in supporting important causes,  “Alexander’s Quest”, an organization raising awareness for children’s cancer, will be at the show and all proceeds from a raffle will be donated to them.

A Wee Show with Big Heart – Edmonton’s only indie & boutique baby show celebrates its third event

A Wee Show with a Big Heart
Edmonton’s only indie & boutique baby show celebrates its third event

October 3, 2011 (Edmonton, AB)

How do you create an event that’s growing in popularity and is truly unique? It takes two artist-moms with a passion for local indie & boutique companies — and two moms with heart!

As the owner of a successful graphic design company Christina Dennis’ days were long and busy. Then three years ago Christina Dennis found out she was going to be a mother for the first time. It wasn’t long after her baby girl arrived Christina decided to take a step back and spend more time at home being a mommy designing her own baby clothing line, Golly Gee Baby. Shortly after that Christina noticed there were many local indie, boutique and home-based businesses dedicated to babies and families, just like hers. One of those business owners is Leah Seidl, designer and owner behind Whimsical Elements – a handmade accessories company. These two savvy women quickly found they had many things in common, including a passion to help promote other independent artisans and local boutique business owners. That is when WeeStock was created.

The inaugural WeeStock event was held May 1st, 2010 at the Elks Hall in Spruce Grove. WeeStock 2010 Spring Edition was Parkland County’s first baby expo of it’s kind. It boasted over 50 amazing baby businesses that were mostly family-owned and from the county area. This first-of-its-kind event drew so much attention that the day-of witnessed a line-up to get in over one block long. WeeStock 2010 Holiday Edition, held on November 20, 2010, moved into Edmonton and the Mayfield Trade Centre. With over 100 exhibitors, organizers Leah and Christina saw thousands of guests attend the second show, thus confirming the show’s uniqueness and growing popularity.

WeeStock’s third event is scheduled at the Aviation Hangar (11410 Kingsway Avenue) in Edmonton for Saturday, October 29, 2011 from 10 am to 4 pm. The event will feature vendors from all over Alberta that specialize in handmade, organic, natural, fair trade and unique & original goodies for babies, toddlers, new mommies, and mommies-to-be. This show will be WeeStock’s most exciting show to date!

Christina and Leah believe in paying it forward, so they are supporting Alexander’s Quest – a non-profit organization dedicated to grant wishes of children facing cancer and to raise children’s cancer awareness. Guests can donate to this wonderful organization by purchasing a raffle ticket to win a gift basket at the show.

“We know there are other tradeshows for families in the area”, says Christina, “but we feel our dedication to indie and boutique baby businesses gives our event the ‘grassroots’ feel families are craving.”

Leah agrees and adds, “Local baby boutiques and local artisans offer high quality, unique items and services that larger, more corporate businesses can’t match. We want to support our local community and its hard-working family businesses that put their hearts into producing their product.”

A Wee Show in a Big City

A new event for families has humble beginnings

November 4, 2010 (Edmonton, AB)

They say ‘necessity is the mother of invention’ and in this case it’s only half true.

As the owner of a successful graphics design company Christina Dennis’ days were long and busy. Then two years ago Christina Dennis found out she was going to be a mother for the first time. It wasn’t long after her baby girl arrived Christina decided to take a step back and spend more time at home being a mommy selling her own baby clothing line online. Shortlyafter that Christina noticed there were many local indie, boutique and home-based businesses dedicated to babies and families, just like hers. One of those business owners is Leah Seidl, proprietor of an online children’s accessories boutique. These two savvy women quickly found they had many things in common, including a passion to help promote others.

WeeStock 2010 Holiday Edition will move into Edmonton and the Mayfield Trade Centre. With over 100 exhibitors, free parking, workshops, prizes and swag for the first 50 people through the doors, organizers Leah and Christina are hoping the attendance numbers go through the roof.

Christina and Leah believe in paying it forward, that is why a portion from EVERY admission fee charged at WeeStock Holiday Edition 2010 will go to Basically Babies. A local non-profit organization that helps provide clothing and essentials for newborns in need. Additionally, there will be a clothing drive for Basically Babies at the event where attendees can bring donations right to the expo.

“We know there are other bigger tradeshows for families in the area”, admits Christina, “but even though we’re the new kids on the block we feel our dedication to indie and boutique baby businesses give our event the ‘grassroots’ feel families are craving.”

Leah agrees and adds, “because we’re moms first we know the value of personal attention to detail.” She continues, “Baby boutiques offer high quality items and services at price points families can afford, we feel mom & dads want to know this.”
